Katherine Heigl is leaving Grey's Anatomy

Katherine Heigl is leaving hit US show Grey's Anatomy, her co-star has confirmed.

James Pickens Jr, 54, says he'll be sad to see the actress, 30, go.

'I wish her nothing but the best,' he tells Us Weekly.

Katherine has played Dr Isobel Stevens in the medical drama since 2005.

TR Knight, 35, is also rumoured to be leaving this series.

US network ABC, which airs the show, declined to comment.

Katherine Heigl says goodbye to co-star

Katherine Heigl will have to say goodbye to Grey’s Anatomy co-star Melissa George, as she I due to quite her role on the show.

George, who signed up three months ago, was widely expected to become a regular character, but she has revealed that she will not be extending her contract.

She plays intern Sadie Harris on the hit medical drama.

George told Entertainment Weekly: "I love the show so much. I've made some beautiful friends.

“I love T.R. Knight. I love Patrick Dempsey, Justin Chambers. I adore Ellen Pompeo. I think she's a strong, incredible woman.

“And Katherine Heigl is the most beautiful creature on Earth."
